MAN Engines Notch One Million running Hours

43 MAN engines – housed at four different EDF PEI (EDF Production Électrique Insulaire) power plants – reached a symbolic milestone in May 2019, surpassing one million hours’ running time. 

MAN Energy Solutions previously built the four power plants between June 2012 and April 2015 for French electric-utility company, EDF PEI, on the French islands of Reunion, Martinique, Guadeloupe and Corsica.

Each plant on the first three islands is powered by 12 × MAN 18V48/60 engines with a total power output of 220 MW, while the Corsican plant runs 7 × MAN 18V51/60 dual-fuel engines, which can also operate using natural gas.

The power plants have since collectively delivered more than 16 TWh of electrical energy, whilst meeting strict local requirements governing safety, fuel consumption, sound emissions and ELV (Emission Level Value) .

Frédéric Maillard, President of EDF PEI, said: "The engines have hit the one-million-hours mark in running time, confirming our contribution to the supply and demand balance for the territories where we are present. A fine success."

EDF PEI has also entrusted most of maintenances operations to MAN Energy Solutions that, to date, has already carried out some 80 planned inspections. This scheduled, preventive-maintenance programme provides a very high level of availability and reliability of the production units .
