MAN Energy Solutions Confirms Closure of Colchester Site

MAN Energy Solutions has announced that it is to close its engine-production site in Colchester, England for economic reasons.

The decision was taken after consultations with employee representatives failed to produce any alternative scenario for a viable business at the site. The company first announced proposals to close the production facility in July 2020, stating that reduced business and a deteriorating economic outlook placed its longer-term viability at risk.

“Since July, we have consulted with union and non-union representatives, and have explored all possible alternatives to the proposed site closure – including potential, cost-cutting measures – in an attempt to avoid redundancies,” said Jan Zebitz-Thomsen, Managing Director of MAN Energy Solutions in the UK. “We are grateful for the efforts made by all involved in the consultation process to date.”

After comprehensive talks, and with all alternatives to closure now considered, Zebitz stated: “The Company has no realistic alternative but to proceed to close the Colchester site; as a result, redundancies will become necessary.”

MAN Energy Solutions reports that up to 80 employees will be affected by the closure, but emphasizes that it will now focus on minimising job losses as far as possible.
