Producing full power with fewer emissions
Despite the world's intention to move towards a carbon-neutral future, global fossil fuel demand continues to grow. The oil and gas industry is being challenged to meet the increased need for energy while simultaneously reducing overall emissions. Such scenarios call for practicable and convincing solutions to support the transition towards a low-carbon world.
Onshore and offshore – a push for decarbonization
The oil and gas industry is shifting towards less carbon intensity
Official estimates count around 150 billion cubic meters of natural gas being flared each year, which corresponds to 350 million tons of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere. Above ground, MAN Energy Solutions is supporting the oil and gas industry in its efforts to endorse the World Bank's "Zero Routine Flaring by 2030". This is only one of several global incentives to curb flare gas carbon emissions, illustrating how seriously the issue is being taken.
Going below sea level is another strategy for cutting carbon emissions: Subsea technology requires less power compared to conventional upstream facilities on platforms or FPSO units (Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading). It also boasts increased recovery rates and reduced energy consumption, all resulting in fewer CO2 emissions. At MAN Energy Solutions, we have taken our pioneering turbo compressor development one step further: We now offer a completely sealed compressor suitable for harsh subsea conditions.
Reduce your greenhouse gas emissions
Whether your operations are onshore or offshore, MAN Energy Solutions can support you in meeting or even exceeding your environmental obligations. Our highly reliable modular products increase your business's overall efficiency. Reduce waste, protect the environment and leave your competitors behind.
Generating energy and producing materials for the future
The industry is looking to meet the growing demand for energy and materials without increasing emissions. MAN Energy Solutions has the products which allow you to achieve this goal.
The efforts to contain global warming largely center around decarbonization. Shifting towards carbon-neutral energy sources, such as wind and solar, is one way of meeting environmental obligations. The most obvious and immediate step to take is to cut
carbon emissions as much as possible from your existing operations.
MAN Energy Solutions designs high-efficiency products for your industry. These allow you to use available resources more effectively, reducing the carbon footprint of oil and
gas operations in the process. Our reliable, integrated solutions are purpose-designed to reduce emissions and to minimize usage of resources along the entire value chain.
Flare gas recovery
Flare gas flames from oil and gas exploration facilities are an unwanted reality. MAN Energy Solutions promotes several techniques for decreasing gas flaring by recompressing the gas back into the reservoir or by conveying it back into the process stream to avoid waste gas. Whenever local demand for electrical power is present, we suggest converting the waste gas into useful electricity by means of power generation units.
How you benefit:
- Reduced carbon footprint
- Optimized profit, no losses created
- Less wasted primary energy
Subsea technology
MAN Energy Solutions develops special compressors to ensure the constant flow of gas for processing in subsea facilities. The remote-controlled HOFIM™ (High-Speed, Oil-Free Integrated Motor Compressor) subsea compressor is the centerpiece of this type of equipment. A subsea production system in Norway featuring two MAN Energy Solutions HOFIM™ motor compressors was nominated by S&P Global Platts as the “Commercial Application of the Year” for the Global Energy Award 2017.
Your benefits:
- Reduced carbon emissions
- Lower CAPEX / OPEX compared to conventional topside platform solutions
- Reliable operation secures your production targets
- Simplified operations with remote control, low maintenance
Carbon capture and storage (CCS)
In an effort to substantially cut greenhouse gas emissions, the practice of carbon capture and storage (CCS) is increasingly taking center stage in industry and politics alike. MAN Energy Solutions supplies the compression technology for purifying CO2 and storing the CO2 in a depleted oil field or a saline aquifer.
Blast furnace gas to bioethanol
Using fossil fuels, the steel industry is a CO2-heavy industry. However, new technology from MAN Energy Solutions allows our customer to produce bioethanol from the waste gases produced by its steelworks in Belgium. This process will run from 2020 with a solution that consists of a three-stage geared compressor, including a dry separator (scrubber), cooler, piping system and instrumentation in a complete turnkey installation. In recognition of this effort to decarbonize, the EU has called this a major step towards a “steelworks for the future with zero emissions”.
