Making the most of your primary energy

Combined heat and power (CHP) plants are very effective in meeting the world's growing energy demands. By converting waste heat to energy, they maximize every drop of fuel while serving a variety of thermal applications from industries to district heating.

Smart decarbonization solutions with combined heat and power

The world needs the energy sector to change and new regulations are raising the pressure to decarbonize. The smart use of combined heat and power (CHP) gives you the opportunity to decarbonize your gas-based energy production cleverly and efficiently.

Putting energy to work in a variety of ways

CHP solutions are extremely versatile, capable of producing far more than just electrical power.

Combined heat and power technologies are proven, reliable and cost-effective systems, simultaneously generating electricity and heat from a single fuel source. CHP plants can easily adapt to changing electrical and thermal heat requirements throughout the year. Highly efficient trigeneration solutions also generate cold in addition to electricity and heat. Even in periods where there is no heat demand, the fast-starting gensets can be used as a peaking plant. These energy-saving approaches can be customized to serve a wide range of industries and applications.

State-of-the-art CHP components take efficiency to the next level

CHP engine based

We design reliable engine-based CHP solutions with the flexibility to meet your changing load requirements. In addition to using practically all of the input energy to achieve efficiency levels of up to 95%, these systems also use the heat from the gas engine to produce heat or cold.

Our engine-based CHP solutions are the ideal choice if your business focuses on electrical power generation and hot water production, e.g. the power-to-heat ratio is higher than 0.8. We design CHP plants with engines that offer a great deal of flexibility in terms of the different electricity and thermal power demands that energy producers face throughout the year. Compact in design, these systems are quick to install and easy to maintain. The high power density and fuel efficiency cut CO2 emissions and keep operating costs down.

How you benefit:

  • Optimized fuel efficiency of around 95%
  • Excellent fast-start and dynamic as well as low-load capability
  • Trigeneration capability
  • Multi-fuel capability

CHP turbine based

Gas turbines are ideal for CHP solutions, using the heat from the turbine exhaust system to produce steam, hot water, chilled water or a combination of all three. Turbine-based CHP solutions are ideally suited to high-enthalpy heat generation, e.g. when the power-to-heat ratio is lower than 0.8.

Our gas turbine-based solutions have a modular design that is easy to maintain and adapt to current and future needs. They are extremely reliable and can reach efficiency levels of up 90% while keeping greenhouse gas emissions to a minimum. Our portfolio of modern, efficient industrial gas turbines in the 6 – 13 MW power range combines the advantages of heavy-duty and aeroderivate design – for an optimized cost-to-benefit ratio over the entire life cycle.

How you benefit:

  • Fuel and operational flexibility
  • Lowest emission levels in their class
  • High reliability and availability
  • Modular design for very short set-up and commissioning times
