MAN TURBAIR® vacuum systems

Paper, board, and tissue manufacturers need to reduce energy consumption for two reasons: cost efficiency and decarbonization. As well as vacuum blowers, MAN Energy Solutions offers entire system solutions for greenfield and replacement projects. Our MAN TURBAIR® vacuum systems have cutting-edge and sustainable de-watering technologies, developed to meet the demands of paper machines and similar applications. We have decades of experience, ensuring a seamless process from planning to implementation.

The fundamental design of today’s blowers was informed by our in-house expertise in paper manufacturing.

MAN TURBAIR® vacuum systems lead the way in decarbonization by drastically reducing energy consumption and achieving up to 99% water savings compared to traditional water pumps.

MAN TURBAIR® vacuum de-watering

Systematic de-watering with vacuum blowers is the most effective way to dry a wide variety of paper, board and tissue types. It is suitable for high volume, continuous production and results in a high-quality product. Our easy-to-operate vacuum systems help to reduce operating costs and exceed environmental regulations by cutting consumption of energy and process water. Compared to conventional de-watering systems, MAN TURBAIR® vacuum systems deliver energy savings of 40–60%. Recycling hot exhaust air from the vacuum blowers into the plant energy cycle enables further energy savings of up to 80%. And of course, you’ll benefit from our comprehensive experience and support in integrating the de-watering technology into your business.

Complete systems

MAN TURBAIR® systems include vacuum blowers, water separators, self-regulating extraction pumps, process piping engineering, valves, control system, silencers, and heat recovery. The systems offer suction flow rates up to 3,300 m3/min, increased thermodynamic efficiencies of up to 83%, and heat recuperation equivalent to up to 80% of the absorbed blower power. The blowers do not consume water and have no wearing parts, ensuring a long service life.

MAN TURBAIR® RT and RC blowers

MAN TURBAIR® blowers are available in two versions: the RT is a compact single-stage radial blower with a vacuum level of up to 65 kPa; the RC is a multi-stage radial blower with up to four vacuum levels with a maximum of 80 kPa. Both types are available with fixed or variable speed. The RT blower’s internal, continuously adjustable diffuser blades ensure variable volume flows at constant vacuum and optimum efficiency. While the RT is especially suited for felt conditioning and tissue applications, the RC can perform at all vacuum levels and is well-suited for the former and press sections.

De-watering around the world

Nordland Papier, Germany

Nordland Referenz

UPM Nordland Papier dramatically cut noise at its paper mill, as well as consumption of energy and water, by replacing eight water ring pumps with two MAN vacuum blowers. We provided one multi-stage RC 80-4 blower and one single-stage RT 56-1 blower. The successful outcome was achieved with minimal downtime.

  • Electrical energy savings: 44%
  • Thermal energy savings: 70%
  • Reduction in water use: 10 m3/h

Smurfit Kappa, Mexico

Paper machine

World-leading packaging company Smurfit Kappa ordered two TURBAIR® vacuum systems for its Cerro Gordo board mill, situated approximately 2,240 meters above sea level. We delivered a single-stage RT 71-1 vacuum blower, particularly well-suited for the felt conditioning process, and a multi-stage RC 95-4 vacuum blower that provides four different vacuum levels ranging from 21 kPa up to 56 kPa, which is particularly remarkable for high-altitude applications.
